Repayment plans

Payment can be made by auto-debit or by mailing payment by check to MOHELA. Loan payments can also be made via online banking services or the MOHELA website.

Paying ahead

If borrowers make payments in advance or greater than the amount due, there is no advanced payment fee. MOHELA applies advance payments first towards outstanding fees, then towards interest, and finally toward the principal balance. However, if a borrower is under an income-based repayment plan, advanced payments are applied to interest before outstanding fees.

Borrowers can also specifically target which loans they wish to pay off through advanced payments. This allows for faster payoff of loans that may have higher interest rates.
