Personal finance experience

Emily started as a blogger-for-hire in 2010, during a brief pause from teaching high school English that became permanent.

She has written about every money topic under the sun, from student loans to retirement, has been featured on Forbes, Kiplinger’s, Huffington Post, MSN Money, and The Washington Post online, and authored 5 books.

Previous experience

Emily’s background in education allows her to make complex financial topics relatable and easily understood by the layperson.

Thanks to her lifelong fascination with the psychology of money, she focuses on helping her readers understand the why of money, and not just the what and how. Emily lives in Milwaukee with her engineer husband, two elementary-aged sons, a retired racing greyhound, and a cat that doubles as a throw pillow.

Education

Emily studied French Literature and English with an emphasis in creative writing at Kenyon College. She has a Master’s of English Education from The Ohio State University.
